Danilo Mezzadri is a Brazilian flutist who has sustained an active career as a performer and teacher.  He has appeared as a soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Pró-Música Symphony Orchestra of Rio de Janeiro, Camerata Florianópolis, Michigan State University Symphony Orchestra, Musique 21, and University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.  He has won several competitions, such as the International Porto Alegre Symphonic Orchestra Young Instrumentalist Competition, Michigan State University Honors Concerto Competition, and the Brazilian International Flute Association Competition.  His performances have been broadcast by Rede Vida Television in Brazil, and by National Public Radio in the US.

Danilo Mezzadri is an avid chamber music performer.  As a founding member of the Quarteto Brasilis, he has given international tours and recorded a CD featuring South American music for flute and strings.  He is also a member of Category 5, which is performing a concert tour throughout Brazil in November of 2008; Promenade Ensemble, a group dedicated to revitalizing Baroque literature; and the Accento Trio with soprano Susan Ruggiero and pianist Elizabeth Moak.

In addition to performing as a soloist, orchestral player, and chamber musician, Dr. Mezzadri is passionate about performing and promoting new music.  In March 2006 Dr. Mezzadri presented a recital of contemporary flute music by Texas composers at the College Music Society South Central Chapter Conference, and in May he premiered the Divertimento for flute, winds, and percussion by American composer Jere Hutcheson.  Dr. Mezzadri performed as a guest artist at the 2006 International Computer Music Conference in New Orleans, and most recently recorded the CD Brazilian Soundscapes - featuring 21st century music for flute and piano by Brazilian composers.

As a sought out performer and teacher Danilo Mezzadri has had the opportunity to participate in numerous conferences and festivals.  Recently, he has performed at the first Wooden Flute Conference in Seattle and at the V International Music Festival of Unisinos in Brazil.  In January 2007, he was the guest soloist at the VIII Music Festival in the Mountains and he served as faculty and soloist at the Second International Music Festival of Santa Catarina, Brazil.  In September 2008, he was a guest clinician and concert soloist at the VIII International Flute Festival sponsored by the Brazilian Flute Association.

Currently, Dr. Mezzadri is Assistant Professor of flute at The University of Southern Mississippi and Principal Flute at the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra.  At the University of Southern Mississippi Dr. Mezzadri twice hosted the world-renown Sir James Galway who soloed with the Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and presented a master class to Dr. Mezzadri’s flute studio.  In 2007 Dr. Mezzadri launched the successful Mississippi Flute Day.  This event brings flute students into USM to attend master classes, clinics, and performances by renowned flutists.  Dr. Mezzadri performs and teaches at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and at the Festival de Musica nas Monatanhas.

Danilo Mezzadri earned his undergraduate degree at the School of Music and Arts of Paraná, where he received the First Prize Award of his graduation class. He earned a Master of Music degree and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in flute performance from Michigan State University.
